Here are some highlights of Olivia’s personal philosophy:
Positive relationships with children is a top priority in early childhood settings.Educators’ interactions with all children are to be respectful, warm, responsive, timely and sensitive.
The whole child approach is fundamental in early childhood education. Eachchild’s body, mind, and spirit are to be seen as a whole, not as separated parts.A Co-constructed curriculum makes learning more relevant and meaningful for children. Curriculum, which includes everything that happens in an early childhood setting, is to be made with children, not for children.Integrated teaching enables children to learn effectively. Children are capable and unique individuals, with various strengths, multiple intelligence, and preferred ways of learning.
Two-way partnership with families is critical for successful early education.
Educators only see the whole picture of a child within the social and cultural context of the child’s family and community.
Nurturing physical environment is a silent teacher in early childhood settings. A well designed physical environment includes comfortable lighting, connection with nature, high quality learning materials, sufficient space, thoughtful furniture arrangement, appropriate grouping of children, accessible and open-ended resources, appropriate level of risks and challenges, flexible routine, large blocks of time for deep learning, honourable display of children’s work and documentation, and aesthetically pleasing decorations.
